The Detective Division of the Ann Arbor police conduct follow ups after the initial patrol officer has investigated a crime. The Special Victims Unit (SVU) investigates crimes pertaining to sexual assault and intimate partner violence. The SVU takes a trauma-informed and survivor-centered approach to handling investigations. The Ann Arbor Police Department also has a SWAT unit that handles tactical needs beyond the agency’s normal resources.
To obtain an accident report for an accident an individual was not involved in, the individual must submit an FOIA request. To obtain a crash report an individual was involved in, there are three methods. The individual may pay and receive online, bring in their photo ID and pay a $5 fee in-person, or submit a copy of their ID, a $5 fee, and the incident number via mail.
